European Projects
MAINLAND FRANCE: GEOPULSE PROJECT | “SIOULE” LICENCE
The Geopulse project is the result of a collaboration between TLS Geothermics and Storengy, a subsidiary of ENGIE, in the exploration and development of geothermal energy in the Massif Central.
The objective of the project is to build a deep geothermal power plant with an electrical power of 5 to 6 MW gross, thanks to the hot water naturally present between 3000 and 3600 meters deep. The project is located within the “Sioule-Miouze” high temperature geothermal exploration license.
To access this resource, deep wells must be drilled. The project has be granted the authorization to drill up to 4 wells (2 producers, 2 injectors).
Information
- Sioule-Miouze License [surface of 52 km²]
- Extension granted until october 2025 (2nd period)
- Location: St-Pierre-Roche (Puy-de-Dôme, FR)
- Februray 2019 : drilling application for 4 wells
- March 2022: drilling authorization granted
- PPA : power sold to EDF through a 20 years Contract for Difference
- Depth of the deposit (vertical): 3000m
- Expected temperature: 160 to 200°C
- Required flow rate: 360 m3/hour
- Electrical power: 5 to 6 MWe gross (and up to 10-12 MWe with two doublets)
- Annual production: 45 GWh (or 90)
- Electricity for 9000 homes (or 18000)
- “Sioule” License
- 683 km² in the second period (5 years 2020-2025)
- Holders : TLS Geothermics and Storengy SAS (Engie subsidiary)
- A geological context combining large Crustal Fault Zones in the basement and cooling residual magmatism
- Several areas of interest exist on this permit, the first promissing one was explored between 2015 and 2019 and gave rise to the Geopulse project.
- Objectives : potential for several tens of MW of electricity on the scale of the permit, heat cogeneration, recovery of minerals present in fluids with low-impact processes.
MARTINIQUE: “COEUR MARTINIQUE” LICENSE
Information
- “Coeur Martinique” License [surface of 133 km²] granted in 2023 (2023-2028)
- License holders : TLS Geothermics and Storengy SAS
- Objective n°1 : production and delivery of cold (air conditioning and need for chilled water) by deep geothermal energy, for the Martinique University Hospital. Possible connection of other commercial areas users.
- Objective n°2 : power generation (5MWe with a small footprint ORC unit).
- Winner in May 2021 of the Call for Expressions of Interest launched by ADEME Martinique in 2020, with the support of local public authorities (PTME).
MARTINIQUE: “POINTE SUD-OUEST” LICENSE
Information
- “Pointe Sud-Ouest” License grant pending [onshore surface of 54 km² / near offshore surface of 8 km²]
- License holders : TLS Geothermics and Storengy SAS
- Objective : power production of 10MWe (ORC with sea water cooling system for a small footprint and environmental and touristic preservation)
